QUESTION
What's the difference between "get in" and "get on"?
It all depends on what kind of vehicle we’re talking about.
Get in is used for cars, vans, and trucks/lorries;
get on is used for vehicles that we ride (motorcycles and bicycles) and for big vehicles that usually carry a lot of people (buses, trains, and ships). So we say “get in the car”, “get in the van”, but “get on the bike” and “get on the train”.
For aeroplanes, it’s usually
get on, but people sometimes say
get in for small aeroplanes. For boats,
get on is most commonly used, but it’s not unusual to say “get in the boat”
as well, especially if the boat is small.
The same goes for indicating location with
be: we say “I’m on the bus/train/ship” but “I’m in the car/van”.
When we’re talking about leaving a vehicle, we say
get off as the opposite of
get on, and
get out (of) as the opposite of
get in.
So: get in the car, get out of the car; get on the bus, get off the bus.
get in" и "
get on"?
Get in используется для легковых автомобилей, фургонов и грузовиков;
get in the car», «
get in the van», но «
get on the bike» и «
get on the train».
get in на маленькие самолеты.
I’m on the bus/train/ship», но «
I’m in the car/van».
get off» как противоположность «
get on» и «
get out (of)» как противоположность «
get in».
