To understand properly Freud’s Crowd Psychology and the Analysis of the Ego, one should locate it in the context of his reactions to the Great War. Today, one tends to forget the traumatic impact of this war which shattered the very foundations of European trust in progress and gave birth to phenomena like Communism and Fascism. Even Freud, whose theory of the unconscious libidinal processes seemed to prepare him well for the explosion of ‘irrational’ violence, felt the need to radically reformulate his basic theoretical premises. He dealt with the problem in three steps. First, in his Beyond the Pleasure Principle (1920), he introduced the notion of death-drive to account for dreams and acts which generate no pleasure but only pain. Then, in Crowd Psychology (1921), he analyzed the formation of social groups which bring individuals to forsake their ‘rational’ behavior and surrender to self-destructive violence. Hans Kelsen, the leading Austrian legal philosopher, reproached Freud that his theory of crowd-formation cannot account for social formations held together by normative structures, and, in reaction to Kelsen’s critique, Freud wrote The Ego and the Id(1923) where he addresses the question: how does the a-sexual social space distinguish itself from the domain of libidinally-cathected interactions? For Freud, the operator of this a-sexualization is superego.

В издательстве Hyle Press вышел третий том собрания сочинений Ника Ланда, в который вошли работы, объединенные двумя темами. Первая из них — его личные эксперименты с нестандартными письменностями и исчислениями, главным образом проведенные вне рамок коллективных практик Группы исследований кибернетической культуры (ГИКК, на английском CCRU). Вторая тема — истоки ГИКК и их гипервереального «двойника», Клуба Ктулху, используемого ГИКК в качестве концептуального персонажа для исследования кибернетического и демонического, а также вселенских заговоров, масштабных сект, грядущих катастроф и прочих непременных атрибутов гиперверия.

В статье представлены результаты исследования дискурсов молодежной политики в Финляндии, Германии, Великобритании и России. Официальные тексты, определяющие молодежную политику: законы, государственные программы, стратегии молодежной политики, изучались на основе конструкционистской исследовательской программы, предполагающей выявление дискурсивных способов проблематизации и лейтмотивов. Анализ нормативных документов показал, что в дискурсе молодежных политик стран Европейского союза доминирует риторика наделения правом, а лейтмотивами являются права, равенство возможностей и доступа, независимость, взросление, устойчивое развитие общества, участие и гражданственность. Конечная цель молодежной политики и молодости как жизненного этапа определяется как обретение автономии и независимости. Дискурс российской молодежной политики отличает терминология риторики неразумности, а основными лейтмотивами являются традиционные ценности, воспитание и патриотизм. Основная цель молодежной политики в России — мобилизация молодежи в пользу государственного благополучия. Европейские молодежные политики с их акцентом на правах и возможностях ориентированы на развитие и поддержку молодых людей, тогда как российская молодежная политика является «государствоцентричной», ориентированной на развитие страны.

What drives politics in dictatorships? Milan W. Svolik argues that all authoritarian regimes must resolve two fundamental conflicts. First, dictators face threats from the masses over which they rule - this is the problem of authoritarian control. A second, separate challenge arises from the elites with whom dictators rule - this is the problem of authoritarian power-sharing. Crucially, whether and how dictators resolve these two problems is shaped by the dismal environment in which authoritarian politics takes place: in a dictatorship, no independent authority has the power to enforce agreements among key actors and violence is the ultimate arbiter of conflict. Using the tools of game theory, Svolik explains why some dictators, such as Saddam Hussein, establish personal autocracy and stay in power for decades; why leadership changes elsewhere are regular and institutionalized, as in contemporary China; why some dictatorships are ruled by soldiers, as Uganda was under Idi Amin; why many authoritarian regimes, such as PRI-era Mexico, maintain regime-sanctioned political parties; and why a country's authoritarian past casts a long shadow over its prospects for democracy, as the unfolding events of the Arab Spring reveal. When assessing his arguments, Svolik complements these and other historical case studies with the statistical analysis of comprehensive, original data on institutions, leaders, and ruling coalitions across all dictatorships from 1946 to 2008. 2021-10-05 20:16:59 Евгений Попов - Онтологический анализ исследований ланкастерской ветви акторно-сетевой теории: от восприятия к объекту

В рамках данной статьи автором будет рассмотрена «прикладная» онтология ланкастерской акторно-сетевой теории и представлен критический анализ ее работ в рамках более широкого философски фундированного подхода Грэма Хармана (с опорой на идеи Леви Р. Брайанта). Критика имеет целью прояснить позиции ланкастерской версии АСТ, согласно которой один и тот же объект может иметь несколько онтологических модусов, являясь тем не менее одним и тем же «реальным» объектом. Для целей анализа использованы классические работы А. Мол и Дж. Ло, Л. Витгенштейна, Л. Брайанта, а также программная работа Г. Хармана «Четвероякий объект». Автор статьи приходит к выводу, что множественная онтологическая реальность объектов и восприятие единичных объектов как дискретных в рамках ланкастерской ветви АСТ формирует специфическую локальную онтологию, которая не соотносится более широкими онтологиями — онтологии реальных вещей и реальных свойств; онтологии чувственных объектов и реальных свойств (по Харману). Это отсутствие связи между локальной и реалистической/чувственной онтологиями Хармана создает лакуну в аналитическом аппарате ланкастерской АСТ, концептуальное заполнение которой способно расширить теоретические выводы и сделать более обоснованными исследовательские практики АСТ-исследований.

An interview with Steffen Mau

October 3, 1990, saw the reunification of Germany. But more than 30 years later, inequalities are deeper than ever and Easterners are angered at the promises that weren’t realized.

Between the thirtieth anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall in November 2019 and the anniversary of German reunification last October, the German-language book market was met with a flood of titles purporting to reexamine the historical relationship between East and West Germany and evaluate Easterners’ status post-reunification.

One of the most noteworthy was Lütten Klein: Leben in der ostdeutschen Transformationsgesellschaft by sociologist Steffen Mau. Drawing on a wide range of sources as well as his own experience growing up in Lütten Klein a model district of the port city of Rostock Mau’s book charts the rise of the German Democratic Republic and the society it nurtured from its founding in the late 1940s to its collapse. It explores the complexities of the relationship between the population and the ruling Socialist Unity Party, identifies the social groups and structures that consolidated over the decades, and explores the rhythms of life in East Germany’s rapidly growing cities.

After sketching out the East German social structure pre-1989, Mau shows how the traumas of reunification collapse of the political system and public sphere, wholesale privatization of the economy, mass unemployment and outmigration impacted different sections of the population. He paints a picture of a region marked by stark “social fractures” between a handful of booming cities and vast rural zones abandoned to decline and depopulation. This frustration among East Germans, compounded by a distrust of elites inherited from the GDR, has ultimately created the conditions in which right-wing populism can flourish.
