The 1654 book deals with probably one of the most hidden themes in history: "The Tartar War or Conquest of the Great and Most Famous Chinese Empire due to the invasion of the Tartars, who have completely destroyed this valiant empire in the last 5 years".

Does anyone know about this war?
The official history of China is somehow certain that there was only internecine strife and no destruction during this time. Few, however, like to recall devastating defeats. But, after the fall of Tartarya, the survivors could rewrite history to their own taste, who's stopping them?

Da Vinci's invention

A Cryptex is a cylinder made of rotating discs of letters.

By arranging the letters in a certain order, the Cryptex could be opened and a secret message could be extracted from its centre.

If an attempt was made to crack the "cryptex", a flask of vinegar inside would break and the acid would destroy the paper. The cryptex was recreated for the film The Da Vinci Code from Leonardo Da Vinci's drawings.

Fact about the flood. The stumps of swamp cypresses at the bottom of a sand pit

In Hungary, four to eight-metre high stumps have been found at the bottom of an open sand pit.
Remarkably, these stumps are perfectly preserved and the wood is not hardened. The thickness of the stumps is impressive. One of them is three metres in diameter at the butt.

Apparently, no other trees were found in the quarry. But these stumps are in a cluster - it means that the others were swept away by the mudflow

A cupboard containing the keys to the coffins of all the Habsburgs.

Each coffin was locked with 2 keys; one key was given to the Capuchin monks along with the coffin of the deceased to be stored in the family crypt, and the other in the cabinet. There are a total of 139 keys in the wardrobe. The earliest belongs to the coffin of Otto the Veselý who died in 1339 and the latest to Otto von Habsburg, son of the last Emperor who died in 2011.

A vase that is 500 million years old?

Once a Precambrian rock (more than half a billion years old) was blown up in Dorchester, Massachusetts, a metal object resembling a bell was discovered. But, in fact, it turned out to be a vase. And this vase was decorated with decorative elements in the form of flowers and vines, inlaid with silver.

More nonsense? I'm sorry, but there's no other word for it. What kind of vase was made 500 million years ago? Dinosaurs made it?

An ancient hammer 400 million years old

In 1934, this unusual hammer was found inside a rock in Texas. An analysis of the stone concluded that the find was more than 400 million years old.

The hammer is made of 97% pure iron and researchers are now wondering how primitive man was able to work the metal.

Scientists are still unable to unravel the history of the artefact.

This vase was made in ancient Assyria in the 8th century BC (about 2,900 years ago).

It is made from amethyst, which is one of the most precious varieties of quartz.
The uniqueness of the vase lies in several things at once.
Firstly, you can see the exquisite workmanship, not to mention the 2 holes in the sides. In our time, the creation of such products is not a problem, but how realistic it was to make such a vase 3000 years ago?
Just look at the effort required to make amethyst today:

1. Deburring.
2. Finishing with diamond grinding tools.
3. diamond paste processing
4. Grinding with free abrasive
5. Polishing with chrome oxide.

Another mystery is the shape. It resembles an egg, but the vase is stable on the surface.

It is known that in ancient times all living things and plants were larger. Now trees are not as tall and reptiles have shrunk from dinosaurs to lizards.

The average human height according to "official data" has conversely increased from 155cm to 175cm over the last centuries. If there used to be giants, then it turns out that ordinary humans are overgrown dwarfs? Or are we something in between giants and dwarves from the dungeons?

3 stone tablets found in the vicinity of the Romanian village of Tărtăria contain symbols that are now the oldest written language on the planet.

Initially, scientists assumed that the Tărtăria tablets date back to the third millennium BC, but a more thorough radiocarbon analysis revealed that the artifacts are much older.

Most archaeologists now agree that the tablets were created about 7,500 years ago, long before the Sumerian script, previously thought to be the oldest in the world.

Victorian mustache cups - a hit of the 2nd half of the 19th century

During the Victorian era in the British Empire, it was fashionable for men to wear mustaches. Gentlemen often spent hours in front of the mirror, brushing their mustaches until they were sufficiently full, or they visited special salons, where wax was applied to the mustache, which gave it the desired shape and luster.

Of course, the true English loved tea drinking. Here was where the main problem arose: the steam from the hot tea melted the wax, which flowed straight into the drink, ruining the whole experience. The mustache became faded and lost its lushness.

In 1860, the inventor Harvey Adams came up with an innovative cup design: a small square, which resembled the shape of a moustache, was left on top. The gentleman drank tea from the small hole, and his moustache was safe and sound on this platform.

At the beginning of the 20th century the fashion for mustaches went on the wane.
