In September 1946 these two institutions merged to form the Moscow Finance Institute (MFI). MFI began with two thousand students and four faculties: financial and economic, accounting and economic, credit and economic, international economic relations and opened later, in 1947, military faculty at the university. The Institute was to train qualified economic personnel for the war-devastated national economy.
