Class notes

Today we had our first book club meeting devoted to "One of Us Is Lying" and the chapters we discussed contained a lot of school vocabulary and I thought it was also great post material!

SCHOOL YEARS
All stages of school, as well as college, are divided into 4 years each. And when it comes to high school (and college, actually), it's no longer cool saying something like "I'm in the 10th grade". No! You're a proud sophomore! Because you're in your second year of high school. And every year of high school has its own name:

1st year: freshman
2nd year: sophomore
3rd year: junior
4th year: senior

SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
A jock is a person who plays sports at school
A mathlete is a person who participates in mathematics contests

SCHOOL EVENTS
Homecoming is an event at the beginning of the year that includes dances and a football or a baseball game prior to this. Former students are welcome to come: that's why it's called this way.
Prom is the final event of the senior year, followed by graduation. It's a goodbye to those who are finishing school.

TYPES OF WRITING
Longhand writing is the old school way of writing, using a pen and a piece of paper. No typing!
Block letters is the way we write before we learn cursive. 𝓼𝓸 𝓷𝓸𝓽 𝓵𝓲𝓴𝓮 𝓽𝓱𝓲𝓼 BUT LIKE THIS.

Was it useful? Should I write more about what we go through in class?

UPD: still kind of scared to write in English here. Russian posts get more reactions! So please hit any reaction below if you like this so I can see that English posts are actually in demand.

UPD2: an American friend of mine gave a couple of corrections on what I have described in the post. Make sure to read them in the comments section below!
