As you know, Dehancer was created based on the analog photography principles and we invest a lot of time and effort into the research and development, so that all our features and tools are as authentic as possible. Grain is one of these tools that required a profound understanding of how film works.

Film grain imitation usually comes down to one of these approaches:
-Scanned grain overlay;
-Grain generation.

In this video we'll take a look at each one of them and explain why Dehancer plugin allows to achieve more authentic results. Enjoy!

In the previous chapter we mentioned that «muddying up» the colors can make an image look more harmonious. However, such an approach poses a threat of making those colors look too unrealistic. So how do you avoid distorting colors so much that they make people cringe or at least doubt your honesty?

In his book, Pavel Kosenko, suggests a trick called «benchmarking with neutrals», which implies including monochrome (colorless) areas in an image so that an eye has some point of reference against other colors. Simply put, introducing black, grey, white colors will convince the viewer that other hues are realistic too.

Yet like any other method it has its pros and cons. To learn more, read chapter 11: «Benchmarking with Neutrals» on our blog: https://blog.dehancer.com/lifelike-book/

Long-awaited continuation of Pavel Kosenko's video-course is here! Today we'll focus on variability and how it helps us "savour" colors. We'll look at the 3 main components:

•Hue
•Saturation
•Brightness

Watch the video to find out how the synergy of these variables can create a rich and sophisticated image.

Renoir and Picasso definitely knew their stuff when using lighter colors. This is why you could see yellow, red, orange and adjacent hues in their paintings quite often. Although previously we mentioned that to achieve better saturation, one should walk “the darker alleys”, but some lighter colors can bring both lightness and intensity to an image.

But could this trick be used in photography too?
