It has been more than 2 years since I cracked an overall band score of 8.5 in my IELTS exam. What I was taken aback was that by far the majority of people search for shortcuts so long as most of their questions are all about how to achieve X in Y period of time. Not the "shortcuts" package of Django, but just quick abraka-dabra methods to achieve something. They are result-oriented. They don't love the process. It is the same as loving money, but not earning it. I am like "What the heck?!"

I love physics because its principles reflect the principles of life. The first law of thermodynamics is equivalent to the law of conservation of energy: energy cannot be created or destroyed; the total amount of energy in the Universe is fixed.

Speaking in a human language, what you sow is what you reap. The amount of energy you put onto something will eventually come back in the form of results.

To score band 8, I worked on my English around 10-12 hours every single day for about 6 months straight. No parties. No night walks. No entertainment. Everyday is a Groundhog day. But, at the end, voila, I cracked higher than my aim.

I loved the process, and the process loved me back with mind-blowing results at the end. Process was the only thing that was under MY control. Luck and the rest? Well, "I don't know" is the best answer here, I guess. Love the process. Enjoy the bugs and errors. Fix them. Learn from them, and put yourself in a "while" loop. Savor these Groundhog days. Results will show up later.

P.S. The words above do not imply that you should not search for better ways to achieve something. It does not necessarily have to take a herculean effort to make it. Yet. Yet, every major feat has a prerequisite for the love of process and hard work and requires blood, sweat and tear.

Peace.

In Germany, a 6 y/o boy who loved Motorcycles was diagnosed with cancer. His family posted online asking if someone can ride pass their house to cheer him up. What happened next is absolutely heart-touching! @emuallimm

I need your help

I have been thinking about creating a self-paced online IELTS course and I need your help with deciding what to include. L = listening R = reading W = writing S = speaking
Anonymous Poll
40%
1. L, R, W, S in one mega course
12%
2. L, R, W, S as stand-alone courses
29%
3. S, W, in one course
18%
4. S only

IELTS is not a personality trait.

I know it sounds strange coming from me who has taken the exam 5 times. But let me explain what I mean.

First, most people(outside the tiny ielts community) do not really care about whether you have an ielts score. Some of them do not even know what it is. What they care about, however, is the way you behave, talk and think(for me these are basic characteristics that make people interesting)

Second, IELTS is not the final destination.
It is just one of the bridges between you and who you want to be and what you want to achieve in life. But some of you may argue that you can make a lot of money teaching ielts or doing ielts related stuff. I think you are hundred percent right. But if your conversation revolves only around IELTS, I believe it’s time to change some things in your life.

Finally, you may ask why are you teaching ielts then? That’s a good question. But if you know me, I always encourage you to focus on learning rather than only trying to get a higher score every time you take the test. I always explain my students the importance of being well-rounded. The world is way bigger than we think and there are more important and interesting things to study.

Do not be a person whose only achievement is getting a high score in IELTS. Let it be just one of your small achievements.

Good night :)

Fasting on the day of Ashura is an expiation for the preceding year.

– Prophet Muhammad ﷺ

P.S. Tomorrow's the 9th of Muharram, hence we should fast tomorrow and on Monday.

2022-08-05 16:34:17 Describe a language you want to learn.

- you should say what it is
- how and where you'd learn it
- and why you wanna learn it

1 recently i started learning spanish and the reason for this is

2 just like the weeds sounds and it has many cognates that i can use immediatamente

3 plus elena get a job and the us and there are a lot of spanish speakers there so it might be much easier for me too get along well with more people and get a better job as a result

4 the first thing i'm going to do is download a lot of tprs a spanish beginner lessons

5 you might be thinking what is tprs

6 well it stands for teaching proficiency through reading and storytelling s

7 dr stephen krashen and who's also known as the father of second language acquisition said tprs is probably the best method out there and i agree because it's so easy and fun to learn a language with tprs

9 this is because it's main focus is on comprehensible input which is understandable listening and reading

10 other methods focus primarily on grammar analysis verb conjugations and memorizing world list

11 and they have not been very effective as most students simply want to be able to communicate in the language

12 what i love most about learning spanish through tps is that all the stories tprs teachers use are so much fun that you don't even have to try to remember something let alone memorizing it

13 the teachers make every single word comprehensible through gestures pictures and translations

14 she don't understand something it's not really your fault it's the teacher's fault

15 most importantly there are tons of resources to learn spanish through to paris so i can pick and choose
