Protected Content, Delete by Date, Device Management and More

Telegram for Android, iOS, macOS and Unigram has been updated to version 8.3, Telegram Desktop — to version 3.3.

Protected Content in Groups and Channels
• Group and Channel owners can restrict message forwarding from their chat, which also prevents screenshots and limits the ability to save media from posts.
• To change users' ability to forward messages open the Group or Channel Info page > Group / Channel Type > Restrict Saving Content.

Anonymous Posting in Public Groups
• Tap the profile picture next to the message bar and choose one of your channels – the messages you send after that will appear with the name and photo of the channel instead of your personal account.
• When posting as your channel, you’ll also see the channel name at the top of your message bubbles.

Delete Messages by Date
• Clear chat history from a specific day or date range in any one-on-one chat.
• To open the calendar, tap the date bar that pops up as you scroll through the chat – then choose which days to clear.
• Clearing history by date currently only works in one-on-one chats, but messages in any chat can be set to auto-delete one day, week, or month after sending.

Manage Connected Devices
• The "Devices" section has received a visually updated menu of active sessions with animated icons.
• You can choose after which period of inactivity to automatically terminate sessions on older devices.
• By clicking on the device list, you can set whether it is allowed to receive calls and new secret chats.
• For the current session, you can now set your own name for convenience.
• The new "Link Desktop Device" button will allow you to quickly connect to the computer or web version of Telegram.

Responses to Join Requests
• When you request to join a group or channel and its admin responds with a message, you will see which community they are from at the top of the chat.
• Bot admins can contact users requesting to join a chat where they are an admin — even if the user didn't communicate with the bot before.

Other updates:
• Global color themes in the "Chat Settings" section, distributed to the entire Telegram application.
• Recognition of English text in photos and the ability to copy it (iOS 13+).
• Selection of a file manager for attachments (Android version from the site).
• Formatting text in media captions on iOS (previously released on Android).
• Updated profile design (iOS 15).
• Playlist playback in reverse order and mixed (Desktop).
• Updated animations during authorization (Android).

Telegram has updated its client in Huawei AppGallery

Telegram is switching to a new user ID system. Because of that, Telegram disabled signing up on old versions of Telegram apps.

Telegram for Android has not been updated in App Gallery (Huawei's app store) for a long time, but now the client has been updated and this problem has been solved.

Remember that Google services are not available on Huawei devices, that's why you can download applications only in Huawei's own store or from websites.

Update Your Telegram App!

Telegram is switching to a new user ID system. Because of that, Telegram disabled signing up on old versions of Telegram apps.

To keep access to all features of the messenger, it's strongly recommended to update your app to the most recent version.

Telegram will work correctly if your app is as old or newer than:

— Telegram for Android 8.2.7
— Telegram X for Android 0.24.0.1439
— Telegram for iOS 8.2.2
— Telegram Desktop 3.2.5
— Telegram macOS 8.2.0.
— Unigram: 8.0.6614.

Don't worry if your device is 32bit: 32bit processors can work with 64bit numbers.

Telegram sends messages to third-party client developers

In the message, the messenger informs about the requirements on the platform:

- Developers need to add support for the new IDs so Telegram can work with billions of accounts, groups and channels.
- Apps must support and display correctly official sponsored messages until January 1, 2022.
- Developers are allowed to monetize apps through their own advertising or other legal means, provided that all monetization methods used in their apps are clearly mentioned in their app store descriptions.

If the rules are ignored, Telegram will disable the applications that violate them.

Telegram introduces a new user authentication system

In the upcoming update, the messenger will change the authorization system. The principle of the scheme is that when entering the application, a call will be made to the number associated with the account, the user needs a few digits from this number. The new system will not completely replace the old one, but will be introduced to some mobile devices.

In addition, in the next updates, there may be an option to remember the Telegram application of the account from which the user previously logged into the system. This will significantly reduce the amount of time needed to login.

The likely reason for this step is saving money to meet the needs of the project; user verification via SMS requires about a quarter of all funds.

Remember that earlier authorization via SMS was removed from Telegram clients for PC and from browser versions of Telegram.

Upcoming Telegram Desktop Update

November Update gets closer, right after Beta version of Telegram for iOS got released, Telegram Desktop updated its source code on GitHub. That lets us tell which features should we expect in next update:

Configure Secret Chat Requests in Other Active Sessions

According to the official GitHub repository with the source code of Telegram for Android, the upcoming update will give you an option to disable Secret Chat requests for active sessions of choice.

In other words, users will be able to make some exact devices they have logged in incapable of accepting new Secret Chat requests. Earlier, users were complaining they were missing out some Secret Chats because of unclear algorithm which decides on which device should the chat start on.

Sponsored Posts in Third Party Clients

On the official website of the messenger an announcement has appeared regarding the display of sponsored messages in third-party Telegram applications.

Developers using the Telegram API must maintain and start displaying official sponsored posts correctly in their apps by January 1, 2022.

Using the Telegram API will continue to be free for all developers. The rules regarding monetization in third-party applications remain the same: developers are allowed to monetize their efforts through their own advertising or other legal means, provided that all monetization methods used in their applications are clearly mentioned in their app store descriptions.

If the rules are ignored, Telegram will disable applications that violate them.

New appearance of invitation links

Starting today, all invitation links are of the form: t.me/+zx_8t4HICqM0MGUy

Following links created earlier with the prefix "joinchat", joining will work as before.

Telegram advertising platform will exclude state channels

Pavel Durov stated that the messenger will not place advertisements on the channels of officials and government organizations:

"We are now excluding the channels of state officials and governmental organizations from the ad platform."

Should We Expect Reactions in Telegram?

According to internal sources of the Telegram Info team, message reactions are likely to appear in upcoming updates.

Rumors begun about three years ago, first signs of Telegram working on them were spotted in Telegram iOS source code.

Promotion Platform Launch: Large advertisers and frauds

The Telegram ad campaign has started in Russia with a large promotion of a network of newborn channels, but soon large players entered, like fintech company Sber, IT company Yandex, and others.

First ads from them appeared at 12th of November. Sber was promoting their main channel, while Yandex was promoting their transit and food tech services, and a bot that was giving out trial access to their subscription.

Recently Kinopoisk (a streaming service of Yandex) was promoting themselves in channels of their competitors and was making jokes about the new ad platform.

There are also some cryptocurrency related ads, particularly, ran by different maintainers of TON-family coins in Russia and China.

Telegram is Working on a Paid Subscription

Pavel Durov promised (in Russian) to launch an Ad-Free subscription this month.

Also the messenger team is working on an option for the channel owners to turn ads off on their channel. That will be possible with an "invisible sponsored message". This means ads won't be shown if the channel owner is ready to pay per view more than the advertisers.

Test Launch of Telegram Ads

Sponsored messages started to appear in large channels. Right now all of them lead you to a Pavel Durov's post in his Russian channel where he explains the upcoming ad platform.

Sponsored messages can be displayed in public channels with more than 1K+ subscribers, they also have a 160 symbols limit. The messages are based on the channel's general topic they're being displayed in.

Telegram Info team reminds you that sponsored messages appear without channel owners' consent and currently they can't be turned off.

Telegram Banned in Uzbekistan

Local regulating authority of Uzbekistan issued a statement that imposes a ban on Telegram and other services in the country.

Earlier Uzbekistan authorities has tightened laws related to personal data collection. Services that won't store data on servers located in Uzbekistan will be fined and their operation will be prevented in the country.

Improved Shared Media Navigation
• Now there is the ability to adjust the size of the grid by pressing the desired button ("Zoom In" or "Zoom Out") or with a two-finger gesture.
• There is a new date block that allows you to move through the section even faster by pulling it.
• Shared media now can also be displayed as a calendar.
• To use the calendar in this section, just open the new menu in the upper right corner of the Media tab, or click on the date block.
• In the menu, you can now choose content to be displayed in the Media tab - just photos, just videos, or both.

Join Requests for Groups and Channels
• You can now create special invitation links for groups and channels, joining from which is possible only after the approval of the request by a chat administrator.
• To view new requests, administrators simply click on the new panel under the chat header.
• Before deciding whether to accept or reject an application, administrators can view users' public data - such as photos and "About Yourself" information.
• Membership request mode can be enabled for any of the optional invitation links in your group or channel settings.

Unique Names for Invite Links
• Invitation links can now be given names that are visible only to administrators in the group settings.

Global Chat Themes (iOS only)
• The eight color themes that could be set for personal chats can now be applied to the entire Telegram app.
• Each theme has day and night versions, color gradients for message blocks and animated backgrounds with unique patterns.
• In this update, the design settings section has been redesigned to make theme selection more convenient.
• Advanced settings can be found under Appearance > Chat Themes.

Transit Times for Shared Locations (iOS only)
• Tapping a geoposition opens a map - now you can see how quickly you will get to a given location on foot, by car, or by public transportation.
• To build a route or call a cab, tap on the time, and the geoposition will open in another application.
• Travel time is shown for both exact geo-positioning and real-time geo-positioning broadcasts.

Instant Media Captions (iOS only)
• Previously typed text draft will be automatically substituted in the caption field after adding an attachment to it.

Settings updated for iOS 15
• Telegram has updated the settings section of the iOS app to match the design with standards adopted in iOS 15.
• Notifications and sticker settings have been optimized, and the Devices section has been made clearer with new icons and more conveniently structured information.
• You can click on any of your connected devices to see more information or end a session remotely.
