Germany has created an oil-cooled automotive electric motor that does not overheat
The German company Mahle has developed a lightweight and compact electric motor Superior Continuous Torque (SCT), which can deliver more than 90% of its peak power without overheating.
A special feature of the development is the automatic supply of oil for cooling. The oil is sucked in through an inlet valve and is pumped around the coils by the centrifugal force of the rotating rotor. The collected heat can be used for heating the units and assemblies of the electric car in winter, or it can be cooled through radiators.
