2021-04-08 13:04:44 While I’ve started searching for a new job, it is time to dust off and revision the checklist for Independent Contract Agreement I’ve been working on for some time now.

It is still a WIP and I welcome all comments and corrections. I’m hoping it will be of use to others instead of just sitting in my drafts folder. I was gonna charge a cup of coffee price for it but decided to distribute it for free so that more people could benefit from it.

My main point here is while being a contractor, you can still negotiate certain benefits with the company you are interviewing for. It is in company’s interest that you are well rested and productive while doing your work. Disclaimer#1: I’m talking about full-time contractors, not freelancers or short-term contractors.

Disclaimer#2: it is in Russian but I am planning to translate it at some point or hire somebody to do it for me since I need to adopt it for other countries realities.

I’m an early adopter type of person. I can never resist trying out a new tool, app, product. So today I’m trying out the mymind.com app. They haven’t got any open remote positions. But I’ve got 5 invites to share with you today. Yeah-yeah, it is invite-only! I know, it sucks! Seems like each new user gets 5 invites as they join so together we can get in as many people as we want.

What’s mymind? It is like Pocket for articles but for everything, i.e. you can highlight a quote in an article, you can save a picture, an entire article or event a color sample. Mymind indexes and categorizes and stores it all in one place so it is easy for you to find it later on be it a tweet, a video or a quick text note.

The app seems perfect for the task of note-taking, the only problem of it is the price. it is 119 USD per year. The invite gives you 100 free cards to try it out. I don’t think I will be able to afford to spend this much on such a tool but I will definitely try it out until I run out of the free cards. For this money, they claim to have no tracking, no social features, no collaboration, no metrics, no ads.

How many of you use Slack? Well, the market has been seeing dozens of Slack's competitors appearing every year but none of them have managed to bite off a large chunk of Slack's user base.

Today is for one such competitor - Quill - they have raised 14M US dollars for their product. For some reason, I'm really skeptical about their luck but time will show, at least they are hiring remotely comparing to Slack.
