В своем новом посте в Инстаграме я рассказала про такое понятие, как “эллипсис”.
Эллипсис в английском языке - это умышленное опущение слов, не несущих смысловой нагрузки, для того, чтобы сделать речь более естественной.
Чаще всего опускаются артикли, личные и притяжательные местоимения, конструкция “there is/are” и вспомогательные глаголы.
Вот несколько примеров:
Can’t do it! =
I can’t do it! (по контексту понятно, кто выполняет действие).
American, aren’t you? =
You are American, aren’t you?
He told me he would take care of this problem and
he did. = He told me he would take care of this problem and
he took care of it.
Did I offend you? I’m really sorry, I didn’t mean
to. = Did I offend you? I’m really sorry, I didn’t mean
to offend you.
Would you like
some? = Would you like
some water? (по контексту понятно, о каком объекте идёт речь).
My baby can stand, but
can’t walk. = My baby can stand, but
my baby can’t walk. No problem. =
There is no problem.
Miss me? =
Do you miss me? (по контексту понятно, кто выполняет действие).
Sounds good. =
It sounds good.
