3 things IELTS candidates complain about all the time and sadly don’t follow the advice given to them
1) My listening and Reading aren’t improving.
My advice: You must listen more. Yeah you have heard it right - you must listen , and expose yourself to a variety of listening contexts through watching movies, your favorite comedy shows and other things along. You mus also listen to music , podcasts and native people talking with each other. This is called listening , my friend - not your repetitive practice that you only pretent to listen just for the sake of catching the missing answers and that’s it. Of course , this will help and has helped some to be successful in Listening section. To me that is not what a real learning experience looks like. If you can turn your lifestyle into the language you are learning by hearing, seeing and doing in English for example - then there is no reason why you wouldn’t improve your listening skills. This coupled with test practice is a great combination and leads to progres more quickly.
My advice: When it comes to problems in Reading, hear me out once and for all cause this feedback is gonna change your whole dynamic of doing reading. I will tell you the reasons why you don’t do well in reading , you will just keep nodding yes yes. First you don’t know that reading is psychologically the easiest component there is - why well because you are looking at the answers on the paper whenever you look at it. Second you don’t separate enough time to read the questions carefully and understandably - Remember this you will only find the correct answers when you clearly know what the question means. Third you don’t do reading as much as you do listening thats why there is a massive difference between the two of them. You should stay true to your practice and complete the reading as well even you are impatient and not a library, bookaholic person. I wasn’t either; I never enjoyed reading before i dealt with IELTS. Then I in IELTS i had the biggest problem in Reading. However I found a way to be at a level where I got 9.0 , and many 8,5s . What I did to evoke that interest , develop patience and comprehension in reading was I constantly read online articles, various books and of course practice passages . It didn’t happen straight away though , I was stuck at 6,5 initially , then at 7,5 but by constantly learning vocabulary and working on the mistakes I was able to make reading one of my strong skills.
P.S I will continue after a while
