British travelers to Italy experienced severe disruption yesterday due to a strike by Italian airport workers. British Airways had to cancel six flights to Rome, and other Italian-bound flights were delayed after ground staff, air traffic controllers and fire crews stopped work.
International and local travelers were frantically seeking holiday flights from Rome's Leonardo da Vinci airport after dozens of flights were cancelled because of a wildcat strike. Around 25 flights were cancelled on Tuesday after baggage handlers and maintenance staff stopped work to protest over negotiations about the future of the country's flagship carrier, Alitalia.
