I’m not a relocation expert, but I’ve hired many software developers, designers, marketers, and product managers from Russia and neighboring countries.

Here is what I’d suggest:
1. contact a local agency that helps silicon valley startups source global talent
2. ask for a list of companies they’ve recruited for and ask to speak with people who’ve moved abroad successfully in the past
3. make sure the agency understands your specific skills, areas of expertise, and goals
4. make it clear to companies they introduce you to that you intend to relocate if successful. ask the company if others have done this before and what the steps are to relocate

Things to be careful about:
1) you must ask the agency which companies they have placed people with before. ask speak with people they’ve actually placed in the past.
2) the company should be paying the agency, not you. if the agency wants you to pay something. you should probably run away.
3) learn English. just do it, it will help you with this placement and your future career
4) when placed, make sure you work for a couple of months locally before you relocate abroad. I’ve had to let go of people shortly after they moved across the planet. it’s better than you are confident there is a great fit before relocating
5) make sure that you and the company agree on a timeline and plan before you accept the role. for example, here is what I do after interviews if I want to hire: 3-month contract from the current location with weekly meetings on performance and very specific objectives. at the end of the 3-month contract either part ways, or, do a 12-month contract and begin the immigration process for relocation abroad. this process had worked well for me, every company will have its process
6) make sure the company has brought people abroad before. this process is more complicated than the company may realize. if they’ve done this before it will be much smoother for you. if you’re the first one, expect it will take longer than you think
