SpaceX's Crew-1 mission, the first operational mission of a Crew Dragon spacecraft, sent four astronauts on a round trip to the International Space Station for NASA. The mission lifted off on Nov. 14, 2020, from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. It returned to Earth with a splashdown in the Gulf of Mexico on May 2, 2021.

The City of Helsinki is trialing a quiet, emission-free robot in a bid to find new ways to keep streets clean with minimal disruption to residents.

The Trombia Free vehicle will run from today until April 27 on weekday evenings on a busy street (Välimerenkatu) and bicycle path (Baana) in the Jätkäsaari area of Helsinki.

“The autonomous and electric street sweeper is so quiet that it makes it possible to sweep the streets at night, hindering traffic as little as possible,” said Antti Nikkanen, Managing Director, Trombia Technologies. “For us, Jätkäsaari is an ideal smart city test location and a reference for the world’s major cities, as Jätkäsaari at night will show what can really be achieved with automation in an urban environment.”

In particular, the pilot will monitor the noise level and efficiency of the street sweeper as well as broader benefits and limitations.

The ExynAero, powered by ExynAI, is now capable of exploring a 3D volume of interest on its own - flying at 2 meters/second - without a pilot in the loop.
Philadelphia-based Exyn spun out of the University of Pennsylvania’s General Robotics, Automation, Sensing & Perception (GRASP) Laboratory. The company said its full stack of autonomous systems serves mining, construction, logistics, and military applications.

ExynAero captures a robust map of any environment, with the ability to overlay any sensor data on a real-time 3D map creating comprehensive, engaging, and actionable 3D visuals.

Dutch police introduce 'Robodog' for drugs lab investigations

AMSTERDAM, April 19 (Reuters) - Dutch police have welcomed a new member to their special forces team, a four-legged robot dog named “Spot”.

The robot was used for the first time in March in what police say will be its primary function for now -- entering drugs labs before humans do.

“A drug lab is always risky for us because there are always dangerous substances involved, but also possibly a criminal with a firearm,” said Marjolein Smit, head of the Division for Special Operations.

“So for us it is a great asset that we can now send a robot inside to do that initial observation for us.”

Smit said the Dutch were the first police force in Europe to use Spot, which has been an internet sensation since Boston Dynamics, the company that built it, first showcased it in 2016.

Spot uses cameras and other sensors, and is useful because of its ability to walk through doorways and clear minor obstacles. It is guided by an agent with a remote control.

THE AUTONOMOUS WEEDER
The Carbon Robotics Autonomous Weeder leverages robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), and laser technology to safely and effectively drive through crop fields to identify, target and eliminate weeds.
Unlike other weeding technologies, the robots utilize high-power lasers to eradicate weeds through thermal energy, without disturbing the soil. The automated robots allow farmers to use less herbicides and reduce labor to remove unwanted plants while improving the reliability and predictability of costs, crop yield and more.

Insane new anti-drone system zaps UAVs out of the sky with targeted microwaves
In July 2019, multiple drones were reportedly used to swarm Navy destroyers off the coast of California. The mysterious drones, around six in total, appeared over the course of several nights, flashing lights and performing “brazen maneuvers” close to the warships. They flew at speeds of 16 knots, and stayed aloft for upward of 90 minutes, longer than commercially available drones.
It’s not known where they originated from. News of the incident was only made public in March 2021, following a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request from The Drive, which rested in the disclosure of deck logs from the ships involved in the incident.
Troublesome drones are not a new phenomenon. In one highly publicized incident a couple of years ago, unauthorized drones were spotted near London’s Gatwick Airport, a major hub that approximately 60,000 people fly out of each day during normal, non-COVID times.
