WHAT IS THE ROOT OF ATTACHMENTS?
The root of all attachments is ego - the identification with the physical body. A sadhak (spiritual practitioner) is the one who has realized this truth. Until a person understands the difference between the physical body and the atma (soul) and the desire to reach God rises in him, he is reborn on earth.
A person says: "I see!" But could he see if he had no eyes? He says: “I walk!” But could he walk if he had no legs? The internal organs of the human body also perform the functions assigned to them and the power of God within the human being gifts him breath and life. How can there be any talk of ego when the vital processes of life are possible only by the power of God? The ego rises due to ignorance, which is dispelled by heeding to the word of the Spiritual Master and carrying out regular spiritual practice.
It is never too late to start carrying out spiritual practice, a person’s age is not a hindrance. Sadhana (spiritual practice) helps us remember God at the last moment of life. At the last moment of life, different thoughts and feelings overwhelm a human being and it becomes difficult to remember God. Even if we have pain in one part of our body, that pain consumes us completely, then what should we say about the last hour of life, when this pain increases manifold? A person begins to remember those with whom he was attached the most throughout his earthly life. If his environment was spiritual, then he remembers the mantra, the satsang, and is able to be born in a family where spirituality is valued in his next life and continue his spiritual growth.
