WHY don't pilots wear beards? Beard bans are less and less common in appearance requirements. Employers usually don't mind a well-groomed beard. However it does not apply to pilots.
Moreover, they are not even allowed to wear a moustache. The reason is not the dress code, as one might think,
but safety. Excessive facial hair and piercings are thought to prevent the oxygen mask from adhering tightly to the skin. And although recent studies prove that modern oxygen masks are "friendly" with beards, airlines are in no hurry to abolish restrictions. After all, in case of depressurization of the cockpit or the cabin
there will be no time to fumble with the mask.
