2021-09-01 09:02:28 Writing With Statistics

Do you know that numbers can be just as ambiguous as words and need just as much explanation?

Many writers pick up numbers off the street to make their messages more compelling. They arenā€™t looking to support their arguments or to make their stories more accurate. They arenā€™t looking for truth.Ā

Discover the most common mistakes writers make when writing with statistics and how to fix them.

2021-08-25 09:03:25 Subheading tips

I come across this a lot in my work ā€“ writers donā€™t pay enough attention to how they write their subheadings.

Subheadings are just as important as headings. They help grab the readerā€™s attention and keep them on the page longer.

Great subheadings are like maps ā€“ they help readers quickly navigate the text.

The most common mistakes writers make when writing subheadings include:

1. Not thinking enough about how to describe the paragraph

2. Being creative at the expense of clarity

3. Being inconsistent with the structure of subheadings

4. Drifting away from the topic of the article

Watch my new video to see why these mistakes happen and how to avoid them.

2021-08-18 09:22:56 What Is Readability?

If you use apps like Grammarly or Hemingway, youā€™ve probably heard about readability.

To some, the concept of readability might sound vague and subjective. But in fact, itā€™s a pretty precise measure that defines how clear and accessible your writing is to read.

Readability is a key factor in user experience.Ā It influences how long people stay on a page and improves bounce rates. Hence, itā€™s also a key ranking factor.

So what is a good readability score?Ā How do apps like Grammarly and Hemingway define this score? What makes content readable? And how much (or how little) do people read online exactly?

Discover in this video:

2021-08-11 09:24:35 Content writerā€™s KPIs

In mature organizations, everybody has KPIs that they are responsible for. A sales repā€™s KPI is the number of deals they closed per month. Software developerā€™s work quality is measured by the number of bugs in their code. Project managers monitor the level of happiness in their clientā€™s feedback.

And what KPIs are content writers responsible for? Umā€¦A content writerā€™s job title doesnā€™t imply ā€œnumbers.ā€ Andā€¦wellā€¦good writing is subjective. Right?

Wrong.

Content writers are in charge of writing quality content. And quality can indeed be measured.

Watch my new video to discover:

- 5 content quality metrics that content writers need to be measuring
- 1 performance metric that helps define a content writerā€™s grade
- How to understand each of these metrics and how to increase them
- Average benchmarks in the software development industry

2021-07-28 17:14:22 Content marketing team roles

When I started out in content marketing, I was pretty much a team of one. I was responsible for writing content, editing it, sharing it with social media, publishing case studies and landing pages, and even writing emails.

We had no strategy, no processes, no KPIs at that point. I was just performing my duties as a jack-of-all-trades that involve content. Even though we managed to get some resultsĀ (I donā€™t even know how),Ā itā€™s very unlikely that this approach will generate repeatable success.

Content marketing is a large workload that requires strategic thinking, wise approaches, and aĀ rhythmic system that empowers everyone to be focused, aligned, and accountable.

So what is a killer content marketing lineup?

I made a video about what roles you need according to each stage of the content marketing cycle.

2021-07-21 09:26:48 Freelance writers vs in-house writers

I love freelancing as a business model. It offers limitless opportunities.

Instead of selling someone elseā€™s products and brands, you can merchandise your own knowledge and build a strong reputation in your industry.

As much as I like freelancing, I donā€™t like working with freelance writers. 99% of my experience collaborating with them has been negative.

So many freelance writers are out to make a quick bit of cash and neglect the quality of their service in exchange for that speed.

Thatā€™s why at Kaiiax we donā€™t recommend working with freelance writers.

I made a new video that explains why in-house writers are a better hiring decision for companies.

If youā€™re a freelancer, donā€™t hate me. I didnā€™t want to persuade companies not to hire you. I just wanted to put across an important message: If content writing is your job, you need to care about quality more than you care about speed.

Do you know for sure who exactly will be reading your content?

Your readers might be people that come from different backgrounds, of different races, ethnicities, gender identities, ages, religions, abilities, or sexual orientations.

You should always think about what words you use and how they will be received by a diverse audience.Ā

Inclusive content is contentĀ that respects and recognizes different groups of people.

2021-06-30 09:31:10 Voice of the customer research

No matter how creative and original you are, your best copy comes from what customers say ā€” not whatā€™s inside your head.Ā

Thereā€™s a specific term for discovering customers' words: voice of the customer research. People write entire books about it, but in its simplest form, voice of the customer research comes down to this:

Listen to what your customers say and use it in your copy.Ā

One way to do the VoC is by mining customer reviews.

Watch my video to learn how to use your customersā€™ words in your copy.

Iā€™m covering:

- What is the voice of the customer research?
- How to do the VoC
- What you need to know about your customers to create copy that sells
- What phrases you need to be looking for in customer reviews
- Examples of copy based on Clutch review mining
