The Pushki is a type of temporal jewelry worn by Russian, Mord | Russian Folklore/русский фольклор

The Pushki is a type of temporal jewelry worn by Russian, Mordvin and Mountain Mari women throughout the Upper Oka River. The jewelry was made of bird fluff (goose, duck or swan). They can be found in the costumes of Southern Russian provinces, in particular Oryol, Kaluga, Smolensk, Tula, Ryazan, Penza, Tambov and Nizhny Novgorod.

The technology of making Pushki varies from region to region. For example, during expeditions to the Voznesensky district of the Nizhny Novgorod region, a method for making goose down Pushki using a thread and comb was recorded: a thread was first stretched into the gaps between the teeth of the comb, then fluff was tightly laid, and then the entire mass of fluff was pulled with a thread according to the pompon principle. The diameter of such a Pushki was about 5 cm.
