Titanium nickelide stores its shape If you harden a complex-shaped part made of nitinol, deform it after it cools, and then heat it again to a temperature above 40°C, its original shape will be restored.
How does it work? It happens since Nitinol is an intermetallic, i.e. a chemical compound, not an alloy. When quenched, the mutual arrangement of the atoms is ordered, causing the shape to be remembered.
