Philippine Embassy in Russia

2022-11-16 11:04:08 Deputy Chief of Mission and Consul General Robert Ferrer, Jr. gave a lecture on historic Moscow-Manila relations through the centuries and the parallel civilizational struggles of the two cities in 1571-1572 and onwards.

The audience was composed of young Russians and academicians connected to the Center of Oriental Literature of the Russian State Library Российская государственная библиотека. Held on 15 November 2022, the lecture serves as a cultural highlight in preparation for an official visit by the Moscow City Government to Manila in early 2023.

It was also an occasion for the donation to the Center of selected books by the Embassy, mostly works of Filipino literature such as from F. Sionil Jose, the late National Artist. The Center's Director, Marina Melanina, and Moscow State University professors Ekaterina Baklanova and Elena Frolova were able to show Embassy representatives their holdings of rare and very old Filipiniana books, such as the 'Arte de la Lengua Tagala' (18th century).
