António Costa leaves a "strong condemnation" of the Russian attack, says that this Thursday's European Council will focus on the discussion and approval of sanctions and consequences for Russia, in response to the attacks initiated.

As for the Portuguese in Ukraine, Costa says that an "evacuation process" has been established with the embassy, which will be activated "if and when requested".

NATO will not intervene in Ukraine, “deterrence missions in countries bordering Ukraine can take place”, if requested.
“Portugal is, this year, in the rapid reaction forces, so the country has a set of units ready in five days to be allocated and to carry out deterrence missions."

The prime minister also wanted to give a word of "trust" to the Ukrainian community residing in Portugal and promised solidarity. "If your family members who understand that they should seek safety and destiny in Portugal to continue their lives, they are welcome", says Costa, guaranteeing that instructions have been given to embassies so that visas are given to Ukrainians in this situation who want to come to Portugal.
