Mother Teresa

Saint Teresa of Calcutta (born Agnes Gonje Boyadjiu, August 26, 1910 - September 5, 1997), known throughout the world as Mother Teresa, was a Catholic nun who founded the Congregation of Sisters of Charity - Missionaries of Love, dedicated to serving the poor and the sick. In 2003 she was beatified by the Catholic Church and canonized on September 4, 2016.

Teresa's work has been criticized due to the nun's questionable political affiliations, ineffective use of funds received from donations, and her refusal to use painkillers during treatment.
On March 13, 1997, Mother Teresa resigned as head of the Order of Mercy. She died on September 5, 1997. At the time of her death there were more than 4,000 missionaries of the Order of Mother Teresa, working in 610 offices in 123 countries.
