Customs and traditions of Ukrainians
Ukrainian’s everyday life is closely connected with folk and traditions. The tourists of the country have great opportunity to be a part of Ukrainian culture by participating in the celebration of Christmas, Easter and holiday which corresponds to the middle of the summer - Ivana Kupala.
To start with, lets describe Christmas holidays. During the Christmas holidays in Ukraine, it is traditionally popular to sing carols. Children perform the Christmas songs going from house to house and wishing the owners of those houses peace and prosperity. In gratitude the hosts gift the children with sweets and coins which bring good luck for the entire year.
Another thing to describe is connected with religion. This holiday is called Easter. It is customary not to sleep the night before Easter, this evening everyone goes to church for the service. People bring a variety of dishes for the consecration to the church and once returned home it is time to break the fast.
In addition to the described traditions, the ancient holiday Ivana Kupala should be mentioned too. This holiday is organized in honor of the sun marks the summer solstice. Ivana Kupala is full of rituals associated with water, fire and herbs.
To sum up, Ukrainians have lots of traditions and customs. Some of them are listed above but others such as weddings traditions, tasting delicious ritual food, wearing national costumes allow you to observe deep and mysterious culture of Ukraine.
