October 3, 2022: Before the explosions on the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines occurred, a Swedish Navy vessel had visited the area in the Baltic sea just days before the leaks. One of Sweden's leading newspapers, Dagens Nyheter, reported that a commercial service was used to track the ship's movements, using signals from the AIS transmitters, which shows the location of the ship, but also can be turned off when necessary. The newspaper reported that the Navy's ship was in the area from Thursday to Saturday (September 22 to 24). And the leaks were first discovered on Monday, September 26. The paper then reported on Thursday that the ship was at the northern location where three leaks to the pipelines were discovered later. And also reported that the AIS transmitter showed to have been subsequently switched off, but was switched back on again when the vessel appeared at the southern area, where another gas leak was eventually discovered.
