This should avoid visible smoke in sensitive areas such as Alaska. By manoeuvring at low speed P&O plans to use the gas turbine as the sole power source. The gasturbines are located on top of the ship near deck 15. The Coral Princess has no pods, but a conventional twin-screw arrangement, with drive thru long shaftlines.

The accident occurred May 15-2017, when the vessel was on cruise around the glaciers in Glacier Bay National Park. The leaking oil in the engine room inflamed and caused small fire on deck 4. There was emergency announcement and the alarm was raised. The crew succeeded to restrict spreading of the flames and completely extinguished it within 30 minutes. All the passengers were informed about the situation and were explained that they are not in danger.
