Russia's crypto mining bill postponed
Russia's crypto mining legalization bill was not on the agenda of the State Duma Committee on Financial Market for the 2023 spring session, which is due to end in late July.
Bill No. 237585-8 was introduced in late November and defined digital currency mining and mining pools, as well as prescribed a ban on crypto advertising.
According to the bill, miners were supposed to be allowed to sell the mined digital currency both abroad and in Russia, but the Central Bank favored selling only on foreign exchanges and to non-residents exclusively.
These disagreements caused the bill's progress "to stall," as Deputy Finance Minister Alexey Moiseev said. Now the crypto mining legalization bill is likely to be revised during the fall session from September to December.
At the same time, Russia's digital ruble bill is scheduled to be revised in February, according to the State Duma's financial market committee work schedule.
