FinU Team Receives 3rd Degree Diploma of the Regional Round of the ICPC World Sports Programming Championship

On December 6-7, 2022, the final competitions of the ICPC Programming Championship among students in the Northern Eurasian region were held in St. Petersburg.

ICPC (International Collegiate Programming Contest) is the most prestigious and large–scale student team competition in sports programming in the world, where the best minds of the planet compete annually. Every year, more than 52,000 of the best young programmers from more than 110 countries take part in it, and only 1% of the strongest reach the final tournament. More than 300,000 programmers who have participated in the ICPC championships of the past years make up the elite of the global digital industry and work in leading international technology companies.

FinU Sums up Results of All-Russian Competition of Projects on Budget Submission for Citizens

On December 7, 2022, FinU summed up the results of the All-Russian competition of projects on budget submission for citizens.

The ceremony of awarding the winners and prize-winners was held as part of the conference “Budget for Citizens and Financial Literacy”. The purpose of the competition is to support projects which give citizens basic information about the budget. The event is held by the FinU in cooperation with the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation and the Financial Research Institute of the Ministry of Finance.

OPEN TALK WITH VLADIMIR VERKHOSHINSKY: YOU SHOULD BE LUCKY IN LIFE – ESPECIALLY AT THE START

On December 6, 2022, a lecture by the Chief Managing Director of Alfa-Bank, Vladimir Verkhoshinsky, was held for 1,500 future bankers – FinU students.

Our outstanding alumnus openly and without hesitation shared with current university students vivid stories and photos from his life, told about his school years in Tarusa, a small town in the Kaluga oblast, and how, thanks to boundless diligence, he managed to build such a successful career in the banking sector and become a true professional in your business!

Vladimir shared his unique ideas:

— Why be noticeable and learn to tell stories;
— How career success depends on family;
— Why it is important never to have lunch alone.

“You should be lucky in life. Especially at the start. You are all lucky, because you are students of the FinU,” Vladimir told all the students of his alma mater.

After Vladimir Verkhoshinsky spoke about his career path, everyone asked questions about how to set goals correctly to achieve results, about the skills necessary to start a career, as well as about life hacks that will help you move up the career ladder and achieve success.

Open Lecture by Nobel Prize Laureate Muhammad Yunus at the VII FinU International Forum

On November 23, 2022, the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize laureate for efforts to create economic and social development, Muhammad Yunus, gave a lecture on “the economy of three No’s: No poverty, No unemployment and No greenhouse gas emissions”.

Muhammad Yunus became world-famous primarily as the creator of the microcredit system for start-up entrepreneurs and made a great contribution to the formation of the social business concept .

During the lecture, Muhammad Yunus shared with the audience the history of the Grameen Bank creation, a new type of bank designed to help solve socio-economic problems. For this purpose, a new structure of the bank and the system as a whole was proposed to serve the interests of people with low incomes: to provide small loans to start their own business. This system was called microcredit and has spread all over the world.

The meeting was moderated by Mikhail Mamuta, a member of the Board of Directors of the Bank of Russia.

“Today we took part in a lecture by one of the most famous people in the world, a man who really changed history. Muhammad Yunus not only developed the theory of “three No’s”, the theory of social business, but also put it into practice: he created a world-famous bank, the only credit institution that was also awarded the Nobel Prize,” Stanislav Prokofiev said at the end of the lecture.

Global Financial System: Challenges and Prospects

On December 8, 2022, from 11.00 to 17.00, the VII Annual International Scientific and Practical Conference Krasavin Readings on the topic “Global Financial System: Challenges and Prospects” will be held at 51/1 Leningradsky Prosp., room 1006.

The aim of the conference is to discuss issues related to new external challenges for Russia, to develop recommendations for optimizing Russia’s economic and monetary policy in the face of the latest geo-economic risks, as well as to strengthen the research potential of bachelor’s and master’s degree students, as well as postgraduates.

MEETING WITH AN EXPERT

The Club of Young Financiers invites you to a meeting with Mikhail Ershov, Director of the Center for Monetary Policy and Financial Markets. The topic of the meeting is “Crisis Processes in the Global Financial System 2022”.

The invited expert is Mikhail Ershov, an alumnus of the FinU, a researcher in the field of macroeconomic policy and financial markets. For many years, he headed the consulting department of Deloitte, was the first Vice President of Rosbank, and also participated in working groups of the State Council of the Russian Federation and worked as an adviser to the chairman of the Bank of Russia.

At the event, you will learn:

about the controversial monetary policy decisions of the developed countries’ central banks: the Fed, the ECB, the Bank of England;
about liquidity problems in the debt market;

Magic of Master’s Program, Olympiad for Students and Graduates

Panel Discussion of VII FinU International Forum ‘ESG Agenda – Fashion or Sustainable Development Factor?’

The Head of State has approved national development goals: the country’s population, people’s incomes and the economy should grow steadily. Achieving these goals requires efforts’ consolidation of both the state and business.

Ecology and the quality of corporate governance have already been widely included in the corporate ESG standards of Russian companies at various levels, while the components of social responsibility and relations with the state are not yet so well disclosed.

The external conditions have changed a lot this year. The sanctions pressure has sharply increased and continues to increase. The imported ESG agenda has lost its relevance to some extent. At the same time, during the world economic war, the issues of sustainable development have become more relevant than ever in the recent history of our country.

SMART RUSSIA Congress 2022

On December 7-8, the IXth SMART RUSSIA 2022 International Congress will be held in a hybrid format. The theme of 2022 is “Digital Transformations in the Face of Increasing Threats and Challenges for Humanity”.

It is impossible to imagine the modern world without smart devices. SMART is a trend of the environment reorientation, it is not just technology, it is a transformation of the social model.

The organizers of the SMART RUSSIA 2022 Congress are the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation and the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences with the support of the Union of IT Directors of Russia and the EXPINET expert network.

December 5, Day of Military Honour of Russia

December 5 is the Day when the Soviet troops began counteroffensive against German troops in the Battle of Moscow, established in accordance with the Federal Law of March 13, 1995 “On the Days of Military Honour and Memorable Dates of Russia”.

The Soviet counteroffensive was the second stage of the Moscow Battle in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. It was preceded by heavy defensive battles. It was on this day, December 5, 1941, that the active phase of the offensive began on a wide front from Kalinin in the north to Yelets in the south, as a result of which the German troops suffered their first, but not the last defeat.

We honor the memory of our soldiers who valiantly and selflessly fought for the Motherland!

‘About 15-20% of University Students’ Works Be Used in Other Educational Organizations’

Stanislav Prokofiev, Rector of the FinU, took part in the project “Question to the Rector”, which is being implemented on the website of the Russian Union of Rectors.

Despite the widespread introduction of the Antiplagiat system, students keep on borrowing the intellectual work of other people. How relevant is this problem for your university?

— The problem is quite relevant at the FinU. At the same time, the analytics provided by the Antiplagiat company shows the problem not so much in the share of FinU students’ borrowings, as in the issue of borrowing author’s works prepared by FinU students and postgraduates. About 15-20% of the works are used in other works of other educational organizations.

Trends applied by the FinU in solving the problem of unfair borrowing:

Involvement of employers and practitioners in the formation of a list of topics in course projects and graduation papers to increase the practice orientation and demand by employers of FinU alumni. The main principle is the practical orientation of all works, starting from essays and ending with course projects and graduation papers.
Moving away from course papers in theoretical disciplines (for example, “Microeconomics” and “Macroeconomics”) to interdisciplinary, including related branches of science, course projects, primarily team work.
Strengthening of innovation and entrepreneurial components in course projects and graduation papers. Implementation of team graduation papers and graduation papers-startup projects.
