Quite /kwaɪt/ = less than 'very' but more than 'a little' довольно (в значительной степени) Quiet /ˈkwaɪ.ət/ = тихий: Can you be quiet, please?
e.g. I am quite tired. e.g. She lives quite near me, so we can see each other quite often. e.g. I was reading this book and came across quite an interesting fact. e.g. I quite like reading but it is not my favourite pastime.
Quite /kwaɪt/ = completely e.g. The two situations are quite different. e.g. Are you quite sure you want to go?
Rather = quite (BUT with negative words and negative ideas) e.g. What was the examination like ? - Rather difficult , I am afraid. e.g. I was quite pleased with the hotel but she was rather disappointed.
Rather = unusually / surprisingly e.g. These pears are rather nice (nicer than expected) where did you buy them?
