In this webinar, Allen Davenport will review what life competencies are and demonstrate how they can be embedded throughout a language course.

Developing life skills is an ongoing process, and the English language classroom is particularly suited to facilitating their growth. Learning an additional language already involves many of the identified life competencies, such as communication, collaboration, and critical thinking, which are indispensable at a workplace or university. Indeed, there are many opportunities to integrate these competencies into our English lessons even further.

Allen Davenport is the Professional Learning and Development Manager in the Southeast Asia Region at Cambridge University Press. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in cultural anthropology and linguistics and a Master’s degree in education with a focus in academic counselling and student development. Allen has been involved in English language teaching for more than 15 years in various roles including teacher, academic director, certified examiner for multiple assessment organisations, and teacher trainer. Allen’s current interests involve integrating creativity into the classroom and investigating how English language teaching is adapting to suit the needs of the 21st-century learner.
