TON Foundation Launches Stablecoin in Africa

The TON Foundation is in talks with Central African governments to launch localized steblecoins on its blockchain. Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the Republic of Congo are spearheading the proposal.

Although the plan is not linked to the countries' central banks, Cameroon's Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications is involved.

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Ministry of Digital Economy took charge of the project, while in the Republic of Congo, the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Digital Economy is leading the project.

The three countries' initial thoughts on cryptocurrencies and how they intend to integrate digital currencies into their economies were outlined in recent press releases. Their key goal is to reduce remittance fees.

"We're not trying to replace the national currency, and we're not looking to create a CBDC, which is obviously run by the central bank," the source said.
