The events take place in the 1970s. Life magazine war photographer Eugene Smith heads to the provincial Japanese coastal town of Minamata, where a real-life eco-disaster has occurred. In this town, he creates the famous shots about the disastrous consequences of mercury poisoning, which struck the world community.
